M/v Warber Joined Seaways' Fleet
was manoeuvred to loading berth. Ice conditions forced the master to use propeller thrust against fore spring line to get the berthing completed. After a few attempts all lines were fastened and the vessel was ready for time charterer’s on-hire survey.
Cheerful master, Capt. Albert Visser and his vessel were welcomed to Seaways’ fleet. Upon introducing a standard and the company flag was given him to show UPM colours. As usual on arrival, the master was busy with an agent; so on-hire survey started with assistance of chief officer and chief engineer.
The rather new vessel, built in 2010, is obviously in good condition. This time Inspection of cargo compartments was easy to carry out and we focused on quantifying fuel on board at moment of on-hire. Main engine of the vessel is burning heavy fuel oil, which is presently uncommon for this size of coaster vessel, but allows UPM to operate the vessel cost efficient with recent high fuel prices.
||Later on the bridge we had a small chat. As owner captain, the role of Albert is definitely more than being just a commander of the vessel. Albert and his wife Mieke Visser are entrepreneurs and they manage together the family business of ship owning. Mieke is in charge of shore side management like sourcing and bookkeeping while her husband commands the vessel. For them entrepreneurship is a way of family living. Already Albert´s father has been involved with ship owning as well his brother. |
We are most pleased to welcome m/v Warber to UPM fleet and wish tailwind and all the best for the crew and the family Visser.
